[T] 2014 - USA - AZ / GA / FL

In 2014 the US was visited again and not only one but two times! In January a short trip to AMARG was planned to see the rare and now stored C-20C Gulfstreams. At the end of the year Georgia and Florida brought some great new stored and withdrawn from use Gulfs. First a photo impression of my AMARG trip.

After visiting Arizona, Nevada and California in 2013, in a search for wfu, stored and preserved Gulfstreams, it was time to do the same in Georgia and Florida. On the 19th of December I flew from Brussels to Savannah (GA), the birthplace of all new Gulfstream aircraft. At arrival I already noted a huge amount of aircraft at the various GAC facilities. This looked a lot more promising then during earlier visits! But because it was too dark, spotting had to wait until the next day. After a night at the 'Days Inn Savannah Airport' I started to explore the airport by following the perimeter road. At different points it is possible to view the GAC ramps. Again Google Maps was a great help.

This was the score after two hours of exploring in rainy conditions:

After this very rewarding morning at Savannah it was on to the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins (GA). In 2012 John Travolta donated his Gulfstream II (N492JT, 82) to the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame in memory of the death of his son Jett. Currently the aircraft, named 'Jettson' is displayed outside in a little bit dirty condition.

The final goal for today was Cartersville (GA) for the Phoenix Air Gulfstream fleet. On route I had a look at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport, Atlanta-DeKalb Peachtree Airport, and Atlanta-Cobb County Airport but besides some other bizjets no Gulfstreams were present. Cartersville was reached during dark so spotting was postponed until the next day.

The Phoenix Air Group has it's main base in Cartersville (GA). Phoenix Air provides a wide range of aviation services from air charter to air ambulance and from providing air cargo services to military training. Most recent Phoenix Air provided a special equipped Gulfstream III for transporting Ebola victims to the US and Europe. Phoenix Air is the largest Gulfstream I operator in the world and some of these aircraft could be seen during my visit.

At the Gulfstream Yahoo Group there was a notification that GI-C, N195PA would be ferried to Cartersville on the 19th of December. The aircraft was not noted during my 21-12 visit and a couple of days later it was found still parked at West Palm Beach (FL).

The next day would eventually bring me to St. Lucie County International Airport, Fort Pierce (FL). But on the road I passed some other airfields.

In 2013, GII N1513 (177) was reported at Peachtree City-Falcon Field but no sign of it today.

Because it was a Sunday the facility was closed and only a distance shot of the remains of Gulfstream II, N901WG (126) was possible. The aircraft arrived in October 2010 from Savannah (GA). The 'Wings of Justice' titles are removed but are still visible after a closer look.

''This is very sad to see N128KG / CN62 being dismantled. I believe that is the final ramp for breaking up aircraft at Opa Locka. It is on the east side of the field and surrounded by fencing. Bulldozing equipment is nearby. This was my family's airplane from the late nineties until the late 2000s. She was a rocket ship! Didn't even have the stage II hush kits, so it was incredible to hear her fly over. Many wonderful memories on that airplane! Unfortunately, major inspections came up and both engines needed work. The economy tanked. Alas, I fly coach now. But man, those were the days.... RIP 128KG''

This short Christmas US trip ended again at Savannah. After circling the airport for a last time, final spotting was done while waiting for my flight home. From the gate area a good view was possible on the G650 production area.
